Letter to the Parish - Events in September

Dear Member of St. Mary’s,

Autumn will soon be here, and we wanted to let you know about the special events and other exciting changes we have planned for September.

• On Sunday, September 14, Father Julio Rivera will visit us from our sister parish Santa Maria Virgen in El Salvador and will be co-celebrating at the 10AM service.

Also, later this same day at 4PM Father Rivera will be leading an Adult Forum titled "The Culture of Peace and Positive Thinking", followed by a sit-down dinner of authentic Salvadorian cuisine. (You can reserve your spot in advance by calling/emailing Denise at the office.)

• On Sunday, September 21 following the 10AM service is our second annual “Welcome Back BBQ” for all St. Mary’s members and especially our new members. Like last year, this will feature a catered lunch from Blue Ribbon BBQ Restaurant, and games and activities for youth and their families.

• September 21 is also the start of the youth Christian Education Program and Acolyte Program. Based on feedback from parents, we are making several changes to the program this year. First, classes for older youth will start at 9AM instead of 11AM. Also, on one or two Sundays each month the younger children will join in the first part of the 10AM main service.

More information will be provided on these changes in September.

In addition, Peter Chase and Kirsten Johnson have special services, music programs, and guest celebrants planned for this year. More information will be available soon.

On behalf of your Vestry we are looking forward to seeing you in September.

Yours in Christ,

Rector Peter Chase
Paul Pyzowski
Mary Green

STITCH 'N' CHAT OUTING TO MARTHA'S VINEYARD

After the summer hiatus, our "Stitch'n'Chat" group will have their first meeting of the season on Tuesday, September 16. Jane Sabin has once again generously invited the group to convene at her home on Martha's Vineyard. We will car pool from St. Mary's on that day, leaving at 8:00am, driving to Falmouth where we will catch the 10:30am ferry to the Vineyard. We will likely catch a late afternoon return ferry, and be back at St. Mary's early evening. Please pack a sandwich to take to Jane's home.

For questions or to RSVP, please contact either Jane Sabin..508 693-0749 or janesabin@comcast.net.... or, Peggy Scott...617 367-0061 or Peggy37337@aol.com.

Leadership Needed for Foods'n Fancies Bazaar

Saint Mary's Foods'n Fancies Bazaar is looking for one or two people, perhaps a couple, to become overall leaders of this year's holiday bazaar. We have a strong group of dedicated and experienced workers, but need one or two leaders to pull everything together. Foods'n Fancies Bazaar will be held on November 22 at 10:00am.

Foods'n Fancies is now our only major fundraiser. The proceeds allow us to contribute generously to many worthy causes. Please call Alicia Bowman (617-332-6278) or Peggy Scott (617-367-0061) if you are willing to help out.

200 Posts!

We usually don't post self congratulatory materials, but we wanted to note that we have posted 200 items in our blog in the its first year of operation. Your editors have tried to make this blog relevant and timely, and keeping it up to date has been a major goal for us.

Feedback - positive and otherwise - would be greatly appreciated. Click on "X" Comments below to let us know how we are doing.

Can you identify this piece of St. Mary's history?

The following decades-old item was found in the church bell tower recently when cleaning it out. If anyone has any idea what it is, please email the church office to let us know. The first person to identify it wins free admission to the Welcome Back BBQ on September 21.*

* Well, everyone receives free admission to the Welcome Back BBQ on September 21.
