Peter Lea-Cox, Guest Organist and Conductor October 31 at 10AM

On October 31, we will welcome Peter Lea-Cox, English organist, composer and conductor to our 10AM service. Peter is embarking on his 17th musical tour to the USA. He will lead musical celebrations of Reformation Day and All Saints’ Day at churches in North Easton, Harwich, Martha’s Vineyard, and Falmouth, Massachusetts. A full schedule of his tour can be found on the bulletin board.

At St. Mary’s Peter will lead us in a commemoration the 200th anniversary of the birth of the English organist and composer Samuel Sebastian Wesley (1810-1876). S.S. Wesley was a grandson of Charles Wesley, who along with his brother John Wesley, founded the Methodist movement in England in the 18th century. Peter Lea-Cox will conduct the St. Mary’s Choir in two of S.S. Wesley’s anthems, Lead Me, Lord and Wash Me Throughly and lead the congregation in singing the well-known Wesley hymn tune Aurelia (The Church’s One Foundation). Following the service Peter Lea-Cox and the Rev. Ron Englund will lead an Adult Forum telling us the story of another well-loved English hymn, Amazing Grace.
