Upcoming Special Music for Advent 2014

December 7- Second Sunday of Advent

As we hear the voices of the Old Testament prophets and John the Baptist, the Adult Choir will sing a setting of On Jordan’s Bank, arranged by English composer Malcolm Archer. During Communion, soloists Rosemary Halloran and Lynn Edwards will join in the well-known duet, He Shall Feed His Flock from Handel’s Messiah.

December 14 – Third Sunday of Advent

The Adult Choir will lead the annual Service of Advent Lessons and Carols at 10:00 a.m. A series of prophetic Scripture readings will be interspersed with Advent hymns. Carols sung by the Adult Choir will include Remember, O thou Man by Thomas Ravenscroft, Never Weather-beaten Sail by Charles Wood and an arrangement of O Come, O Come Emmanuel by Alice Parker and Robert Shaw. The choir will be joined by guest instrumentalists Bruce Goody, flute and Jonathan Moretz, guitar.

December 21 – Fourth Sunday of Advent The young people of St. Mary’s will present the Christmas Pageant during the 10:00 a.m. service with anthems by the Junior Choir and Christmas hymns sung by the congregation. At the Offertory, the Adult Choir will sing a setting of the Song of Mary (Magnificat).
