NEW Sunday School Routine Begins September 19th! Sunday School for all kindergarteners through fifth graders will begin at 9:45 every Sunday, starting September 19th. All children in kindergarten through grade five are invited to join us for a Godly Play lesson at 9:45, after which the Sunday School teachers will lead the K-5 children up to the sanctuary to join their families and the parish at the Holy Eucharist and remain for the conclusion of the service. Children who are not yet ready to receive the Eucharist are invited to join their parents at the altar rail to receive a special blessing. Please note the NEW start time – 9:45 a.m.
Godly Play Our Godly Play program teaches sacred Biblical stories, parables and liturgical actions through story-telling with concrete objects and biblical figures. These durable story-telling materials draw children more deeply into the stories, creating a sacred space in which children are invited to wonder and grow in spiritual relationship to God.
We are seeking adults who are willing to serve as “Greeters” in the Godly Play classrooms on a one-time OR rotating basis throughout the year. Volunteering in this role will give you a closer look at the wonder of Godly Play, but requires only that you greet the children and assist the Godly Play teacher in the classroom. Please speak with Mary Green or Isabel Phillips if you are interested in serving as a Sunday School Greeter this year.
Please Note: Middle School Class is on Temporarily Hiatus In lieu of a Sunday School class for middle school and high school youth, our rector, George Stevens, is organizing a bi-monthly Youth Group. St. Mary’s wishes to thank Jeffrey Hughes for his many years of devoted service in teaching our Sunday School class for middle schoolers and leading/mentoring confirmation classes.
We are seeking adults who may have an interest in co-leading the Youth group with George Stevens, who brings a wealth of experience with adolescent Christian Education to St. Mary’s. Please contact George if you have an interest in contributing to St. Mary’s in this way.
Seeking a new Director of Christian Education St. Mary’s is also in the process of seeking a new Director of Christian Education. Isabel Phillips will be stepping down in her role as Interim Director of Christian Education as of January 1, 2011. If you know of any possible candidates for this position, please speak to George Stevens or Mary Green, our Senior Warden.
