Music for Holy Week

MUSIC FOR HOLY WEEK

On March 24, Palm Sunday, the music will take us from the “Hosannas” of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem to the cries of anguish at the Cross. The service will begin with the rousing spiritual, Ride On, King Jesus, sung by alto soloist Lynn Edwards. The Adult Choir will sing Wondrous Crossby contemporary English composer Philip Wilby, and William Byrd’s setting of Ave verum (Hail, true body, born of Mary).

Maundy Thursday, March 28 at 7:30 p.m. the choir will lead Passiontide hymns and sing Mozart’s Ave verum as we remember the Last Supper and strip the altar in preparation for Good Friday.

On Easter Sunday March 31 at the 10:00 a.m. service, the sounds of brass and organ will fill the sanctuary as we celebrate the resurrection. The Adult and Junior Choirs will sing a joint anthem, Christ the Lord is risen today, accompanied by recorder and Orff instruments. Ken Laing, trumpeter, will join the choir in Easter anthems, The Strife is O’er and Christ the Lord has Triumphed Over Death. Congregation and choirs together will sing Easter hymns. Please join us on this festive day!
