On Palm Sunday, the music will take us from the “Hosannas” of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem to the cries of anguish at the Cross. The service will begin with a call to Jerusalem, The Holy City, sung by alto soloist Lynn Edwards. Following the procession the Adult Choir will sing “Lift up your heads, o ye gates,” by English composer William Mathias, and then move to the Passion with the anthem “Christ for us became obedient unto death,” and the South African song Senzeni na (What Have We Done?).
Maundy Thursday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m. the choir will lead Passiontide hymns and sing Edward Elgar’s Ave verum as we remember the Last Supper and strip the altar in preparation for Good Friday.
On Easter Sunday. April 8, the sounds of brass and organ will fill the sanctuary as we celebrate the resurrection. The Junior Choir will offer the anthem “Sing Out with Joy,” and the Adult Choir, accompanied by trumpeter Ken Laing, will sing anthems by American composers William Billings and K. Lee Scott. Congregation and choirs together will sing Easter hymns. Please join us on this festive day!
