St. Mary’s Episcopal Church is seeking a joyful, creative, and organized person to serve as Director of Christian Education. We are a historic parish with a growing youth program that utilizes the Godly Play curriculum for our elementary school students.
Job Description · Oversee, administer and support Sunday School curriculum and activities, childcare, Youth Group and inter-generational programs · Work closely with Sunday School teachers, parents, rector, Director of Music and acolyte coordinator · Develop and communicate Sunday School policies · Train and mentor teachers · Organize, plan and staff various activities throughout the year · 15 hours per week (flexible scheduling)for 44 weeks (summer off) · Member of Parish Staff
Specific Duties · Continue to grow Godly Play curriculum · Plan, develop or purchase other curricula as needed · Meet with teachers on a regular basis to assess programs and address concerns · Manage Christian Education budget including preparing annual budget · Prepare monthly reports for Vestry and Annual Meeting · Submit short articles for weekly update, Good News and weekly bulletins
Skills/Educational Criteria · Faithful Christian (Episcopalian preferred) · Creative/Self Starter · Team Player · Strong interpersonal and communication skills-oral and written · Passionate commitment to children and Christian formation · Good organizational, administrative and classroom managament skills · Comparable work experience and/or degree in religion/theology preferred · Familiarity with Godly Play curriculum a plus
