Dear Friends,
Last weekend, those of you who attended the 10:00 a.m. service saw a new face serving on the altar. The Rev. Michael Hamilton is a deacon who will be working with us for the next three years.
Michael was ordained to the diaconate in 2007. Since that time he has served at the Order of Saint Anne in Arlington and coordinator of disaster relief for the diocese. He is also one of the coordinators for the diaconate training program which will take him away from us one weekend a month. Michael is a vocational deacon, which means that he will remain a deacon for the entirety of his ministry. This type of clergy is assigned and supported by the diocese and despite all the work is non-stipendiary in nature.
Vocational deacons, also called perpetual deacons, are charged with bringing the church into the world. Michael does this in his ‘day job’ as pharmacist at Lahey in Burlington and as an artist in the medium of glass, icons and sculpture.
I urge you to welcome Michael warmly and get to know him and his many ministries.
– George
