COVID-19: UPDATE FROM THE RECTOR, MARCH 13

Dear People and Friends of Saint Mary’s, Well, after that long, carefully crafted email I sent you just yesterday, the wardens and I have now decided to suspend all worship and all activities at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Newton for the next two weeks. There will be no in-person Sunday services on Sunday, March 15 or 22 (though see below!). COVID-19: UPDATE FROM THE RECTOR, MARCH 12

As cases of coronavirus COVID-19 continue to multiply exponentially, it’s important to remember that people of faith have gotten through tough times before. We will get through COVID-19, too – by taking all mandated and recommended precautions seriously and by supporting one another in creative ways. St. Mary’s will be following all new diocesan mandates and recommendations on Sunday, including: • Offering communion bread only. • Passing the Peace with no physical contact.

Special Lenten Music Sunday on March 22 at 10:00am [POSTPONED]

On the Fourth Sunday of Lent (March 22) the St. Mary’s Adult Choir, soloists and string trio will present Mozart’s Missa brevis in D at the 10am service. Mozart composed this setting for the Salzburg Cathedral in 1774 when he was still a teenager. It was the first of Mozart’s masses to be published, printed initially in 1793. Because of its expressive character and beautiful melodic lines it has remained one of Mozart’s well-known sacred works. Please join us on Sunday, March
